Biography

René Laloux was an active tennis player in his hometown of Liège in the 1910s and 1920s, alongside his brother André and sister Françoise. He played doubles at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics with his brother, André and also mixed doubles partnered by Marthe Dupont-Trasenster. His family was long involved in the Belgian arms industry, and founded the Fabrique nationale d’Armes de guerre (FN).

René Laloux was educated as an engineer and was appointed as deputy director of the family business in 1932, then later took over leadership in 1950. During this time, he played a role in the production and distribution of Rolls-Royce engines and the expansion into the nuclear and space industry. He remained in the position of general manager until 1963, but stayed on as president and member of the board of directors until 1971.
