Biography

Gabriele Löwe, a 400 metre runner, earned a silver medal with the 4×400 relay at the 1980 Moskva Olympics. She also reached the final of the 400, placing sixth. In the 1600 relay, Löwe (under her maiden name Kotte) also won both the World Cup and European Cup in 1979, winning her only East German title in the 400 that year, shared with Christina Brehmer. She was educated as an economic assistant. Her husband was non-Olympian javelin thrower Rainer Löwe.
