Biography

Decathlete Manfred Tiedtke was the brother of Jürgen Tiedtke, a non-Olympian pole vaulter, brother-in-law of Jürgen’s wife Ingrid Schneider, also a non-Olympian sprinter and 1966 European Championship finalist in the 200 metres, and the uncle of their daughters Susen and Pia Tiedtke, a former handball international. Manfred came in 10th at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, and 11th at the 1966 Europeans. At the East German Championships Manfred Tiedtke finished second in 1967 and third in both 1966 and 1969.
