Biography

Hurdler Kristin Patzwahl reached the semifinals of the 100 hurdles both at the 1992 Barcelona and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics but failed to qualify for either final. She participated in the 1991 and 1993 World Championships, and the 1990 and 1994 Europeans, and the 1991 World Indoors and 1992 European Indoors. In the former GDR Patzwahl earned the indoor title in the 60 m hurdles in 1990 and a relay title in 1986. In reunified Germany she then won the 100 metre hurdles in 1991, 1993, and 1994. She studied Sudan archaeology and African studies, and became fluent both in the West African language Haussa and the East African language Suaheli.
