Biography

Hans Baumgartner won outdoor national long jump titles from 1971-74 and was third in 1970, 1976 and 1977. He competed at the 1971 and 1974 European Championships, placing fourth in 1974. He was even more successful in indoor long jump competitions, winning national titles in 1969, 1971-73 and 1977, as well as the European Indoor Championship in 1971, 1973 and 1977, finishing second in that event in 1972 and 1974. In 1972 he was awarded the Silberne Lorbeerblatt (Silver bay leaf) after having earned the silver medal at the Munich Olympics. Four years later he also reached the final, but placed only eighth.

Personal Best: LJ – 8.18 (1972).
