Biography

Long-distance runner Christoph Herle placed fifth in the 10K at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games and did not finish the semifinal in the 5K. He also placed eighth in the 10K at the 1983 World Championships. His three participations at the 1978, 1982 and 1986 European Championships were less successful, but at the European Cup he finished fourth in 1983, third in 1985, and eighth in 1987 (all in the 10K). In 1985 he finished seventh in the 3,000 at the World Indoors and earned silver at the 1979 European Indoors over the same distance. He won four consecutive West German titles from 1983-86 in the 10K, adding seven further titles in different distances, mostly in cross-country.

In 1983 Herle ran his first marathon at Chicago finishing fifth (2-12:14) and his second and last one in 1985 at London (2-09:23) finishing fourth. He studied architecture and art history at the Technical University of München and founded an architecture office in 1983.

Personal Bests: 5000 – 13:19.25 (1985); 10000 – 27:50.27 (1985).
