Biography

Like his brothers, Gábor Gerő also played football in his youth in addition to athletics. Gerő started athletics in MTK, then joined his older brothers Ferenc and Mór in KAOE. After the termination of the association all three transferred to MTK.

In 1932 he became the national champion in the 100 metres sprint, and in 1931 and 1933 he won in the 200 metres. In 1933 he twice equalled the Hungarian record of 10.5 seconds held by his brother Ferenc in the 100 metres. In 1936 he took part in the Berlin Olympics, but was eliminated in the preliminaries of the 100m, and was only named as a reserve in the 4 x 100m relay.

Gerő ended his sports career in 1937. In 1949, he left for Australia with his wife, and there he worked as an athletic trainer of the Randwick Kensington A.C. He also coached the Budapest SC football team in Sydney for a short time. Like his brothers, he studied to be a furrier and continued this occupation in Australia.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.6 (1933).
