Biography

Silvana Pierucci was an Italian athlete who competed in the years just after World War II. As often happened in that era, Pierucci competed well in two sports, athletics and basketball. In the latter she earned 10 caps with the national team with her début in Nice on 2 January 1950 in a winning match against France and appeared at the second edition of the European Championships, at Budapest, where Italy finished fifth.

In athletics Pierucci was an all-around athlete, winning three Italian titles in the pentathlon (1949-51), but she distinguished herself in the long jump. She won four consecutive Italian titles (1948-51), and set a national record in Zlin, now Czech Republic, on 7 August 1949 (5.66), which lasted for almost six years. She was entered at the 1948 London Olympics and placed fifth with 5.34 at the 1950 European Championships in Bruxelles. Pierucci won 12 international caps from 1948-51.

Personal Best: LJ – 5.66 (1949).
