Biography

Monaco competed at the Olympics for the first time when they sent a delegation of four athletes to the 1920 Antwerpen Games. All-round track and field athlete Edmond Médecin competed in four events and was also the nation’s flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony. Médecin ran in both the 100 and 200 metres but did not advance from the heats in either race. In the long jump he finished in 21st place with a best effort of 6.035 metres. Médecin’s best performance came in the pentathlon where he finished in 15th place, despite not running in the 1,500 metres. His second cousin Gaston also represented Monaco at the Olympics with him too carrying the flag at the Opening Ceremony.
