Biography

Myitung Maw made his major international début for Burma (now Myanmar) in the marathon at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, where he placed 26th. He was also entered in the 10,000 metres, but did not start. He did, however, take part in the 10,000 metres at the 1959 Southeast Asian Peninsular Games, the same year that he ran in the Boston Marathon. In 1960 he returned to the Olympics, again not starting in the 10,000 metres and this time finishing 27th in the marathon. He had better luck in that event at the Asian Games, where he took silver in 1958 and bronze in 1962. After an unsuccessful 1961 SEAP Games, he took silver in the 10,000 metres at the 1965 edition and finally won gold in the marathon in 1967.

Personal Bests: 10000 – unknown; Mar – 2-28:17 (1960).
