Biography

Tjeerd Boersma was a Dutch track and field athlete who represented AAC in Amsterdam where he specialised as a sprinter. Along with Tinus Osendarp, Chris Berger, and Robert Jansen, Boersma was part of the Dutch quartet that won bronze in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1934 European Championships in Torino, setting a national record in the process. Two years later he was selected to run in the same event at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, along with Osendarp, Berger and Osendarp. The Dutch team won their heat in a time of 41.3 seconds, setting a national record that stood until 1963. In the final, however, Osendarp was involved in an incident with the German runner Gerd Hornberger, resulting in Osendarp dropping the baton and the team being disqualified.

Personal Best: 100 – 10.7 (1937).
