Biography

Eugénio Eleutério had a relatively long career as a sprinter, but he was unfortunately at his prime during World War II. Thus, he did not set his first national record, or win his first Portuguese national championship, until 1944, when he took the 100 metres title. He earned only one more individual national title, in the 200 metres, in 1949, although he won nine more in the 4x100 metres relay, as well as one in the 4x400 metres relay. His sole Olympic appearance came at the 1952 Helsinki Games, at the end of his career, where was eliminated in the first round of both the 200 metres and the 4x100 metres relay, in the latter alongside Tomás Paquete, Fernando Casimiro, and Rui Maia.

Personal Bests: 100 – 10.9 (1944); 200 – 22.2 (1951).
