Biography

Nikolay Kharkov was a three-times Russian champion: in 1911 and 1913 in the 1,500 metres and in 1915 in the one-hour run. At the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm, he failed to advance to the final of the 1,500 m. In 1911, he set national records in the 1,500 m, the 5,000 m, and the one-hour run. Two years later he improved the records in the 3,000 m and the 10,000 m.

Kharkov was almost as successful as a speed skater. In 1910, he placed second in the Russian Championship of the classical all-around. In 1911, he won the National Championship Cup and set a new Russian record in the 5,000 m. He died at just 32-years-old.

Personal Best: 1500 – 4:25.0 (1911).
