Biography

From the late 1950s until the mid-1960s Ulla-Britt Wieslander was one of the best sprinters and hurdlers in Sweden, winning 17 individual titles and six team titles, and competing at three Olympic Games. Wieslander won her first national titles in 1958 with gold in the 4 x 100 metres and the 4 x 200 metres relays. This was just the beginning of her dominance in Swedish athletics, as she won individual titles in the 100 metres (1959–60, 1963–65, 1967), the 200 metres (1959–61, 1963–64, 1967), and the 80 metres hurdles (1960–61, 1963–64, 1966). In the relay races she did the double in both the 4 x 100 metres and the 4 x 200 metres in 1959 and 1960. During this time she also set national records in the 80 metres hurdles and the 200 metres.

Wieslander competed at the 1960 Roma, 1964 Tokyo, and 1968 Mexico City Olympics but her results were disappointing. In the five races she competed in across the three Games she only advanced from the heats on one occasion when she reached the quarter-finals of the 100 metres in Tokyo.

Personal Bests: 100 – 11.86 (1968); 200 – 24.2 (1964); 80H – 10.7 (1968).
