Biography

Bengt Nilsson was a Swedish high jumper who competed at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He was European Champion in 1954 and won the Swedish title three times, in 1953-55. In 1954 he was awarded the Swedish Dagbladet gold medal for his European title, and was also awarded Stor Grabb #172. Nilsson set five Swedish records in 1954 and also broke the European record four times with 2.05, 2.09, 2.10, and 2.114. In November 1955 Nilsson injured his hip, which still caused him difficulty in the Olympic year.
