Biography

Turhan Göker was a student at the American Robert College of Istanbul when he was noted for his skill on the track by a recruiter from Fenerbahçe. After winning the Turkish junior national 800 metres championship in 1949, he was moved to the senior team and quickly won his first national title in the same event. His international career began when he represented his country at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he was eliminated in the first round of the 800 and 1,500 metres. He went on to compete at three consecutive editions of the Balkan Games (1953-1955), as well as the 1955 Mediterranean Games, but never reached the podium. He retired from active competition in 1956 due to an injury of his Achilles tendon, but stayed active in the administration of the sport at both the club and national level. He also compiled data as an athletics statistician and, by career, had a degree in law.

Personal Bests: 800 – 1:54.0 (1952); 1500 – 3:52.4 (1954).
