Biography

Nikolay Berezutsky was a Soviet track and field athlete who specialised in the hurdles. From 1958 to 1964 Berezutsky represented the Soviet Union at international athletics meets and competed at the Olympics and the European Championships. His first success came in 1960 when he won silver in the 110 metres hurdles at the national championships, earning himself a place on the Olympic team. Later that year he ran in the same event at the Roma Games where he reached the semi-finals. In 1962 he continued to have success in his favoured event, winning bronze at the USSR championships and at the European Athletics Championships in Belgrade. After his athletics career Berezutsky worked as a teacher at the Air Force Academy and later at the Accounting and Credit College in Leningrad.
