Biography

Anette Bøe had her national breakthrough in 1979 when she won the Norwegian Championships in 5 km cross-country. She qualified for the 1980 Winter Olympic team, and won a bronze medal as a member of the Norwegian relay team, skiing the second leg. In 1981 she won her second national title, this time over 20 km. At the 1982 World Championships in Oslo Bøe was a member of the gold medal winning Norwegian relay team, but to her disappointment, she was not selected for the 1984 Winter Olympic team, although she won the 20 km at Holmenkollen shortly after the Sarajevo Games. Her greatest year was 1985. At the World Championships in Seefeld, Austria she won two individual gold medals, 5 km and 10 km, in addition to a silver medal in the relay and a bronze in the 20 km. In Holmenkollen she again won the 20 km race. She also won the overall title in the 1984-85 World Cup season. Anette Bøe quickly adapted to the new skating technique in cross-country skiing, but her opponents closed the gap, and even though she was selected for the 1988 Winter Games, she placed only 20th in the 20 km. From 1988 she lived together with Ole-Jacob Libæk, president of the Norwegian Ice Hockey Federation, and she began a new career as an ice hockey player, winning two national championships. Bøe has also won several competitions in triathlon. She gave birth to three children, and married Libæk in 2000. In 2003 she worked as a guide at the World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme, and during the championships developed a serious tinnitus problem that later affected her. In 2013 she and Libæk separated after being together for 25 years.
