Biography

Lara Magoni dedicated the first part of her life to Alpine skiing, as an all-round athlete and then specializing in the slalom event. She made her international début at the Junior World Championships in Bad Kleinkirchheim in 1986 and in the World Cup she obtained her first notable result on 12 December 1990 in the slalom held in Val Zoldana, placing 15th. She subsequently continued to obtain good placings, despite being missing several seasons due to serious injuries (ruptured her Achilles tendon three times and several fractures).

Magoni’s best sporting season was 1996-97 where she achieved all four of her World Cup podiums in slalom: the first was third place on 4 January in Maribor and the last on 16 March in Vail was her only World Cup victory. At the end of the season she was 17th overall and fourth in the slalom ranking. Her success in the World Cup was preceded by a few days by the most prestigious result of her career, the silver medal won, behind her teammate Deborah Compagnoni, at the 1997 World Championships in Sestriere, again in slalom.

After her playing days, Magoni held the roles of Unicef Testimonial, editor of articles in specialized magazines, and sports commentator on national radio and television networks, and was also a politician, becoming Regional Councilor, then Senator of the Italian Republic (March-July 2018) in the right-wing party “Fratelli d’Italia”, and later Councilor for Tourism, territorial marketing, and fashion of the Lombardy region. She has also been an entrepreneur in the Bergamo Prealps, managing a business in the hotel sector together with her family.

At the European elections in June 2024, Magoni stood as a representative of the Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy) party for the north-western constituency and was elected in fifth place with 20.421 votes.
