Biography

Calla Urbanski skated pairs with multiple partners, including Michael Blicharski, Mark Naylor, and Joe Mero, but she is best known for her years with Rocky Marval. Urbanski and Marval were not typical figure skaters, coming from a less privileged background than many, and they were dubbed “The Waitress and the Truck Driver,” because of jobs they held to support their figure skating. As amateurs, Urbanski and Marval won the US title in 1992-93, and Skate American in 1991. They then skated professionally, placing third at the 1998 World Professional Championships. Urbanski and Marval were known for their fiery relationship, often fighting on and off the ice, although it was never a romantic relationship. Urbanski settled in Wilmington, Delaware and coaches figure skaters.
