Biography

Vladimír Bednář was a defensive defensiveman who played most of his career in Czechoslovakia with HC Škoda Plzeň. His senior career began in 1966 and lasted through 1986 when it was ended by a serious eye injury. He played one season with HC Dukla Jihlava (1968-69), one season in Norway with Stjernen Fredrikstad (1983-83), and ended his career with two seasons with Partizan Beograd in Yugoslavia, but the remainder of his ice time was with Škoda. Bednář played at the European Junior Championships in 1968, and at the World Championships in 1969, 1970, and 1972, winning a World gold medal in 1972, and bronzes in 1969 and 1970, in addition to his 1972 Olympic bronze medal. He was capped 65 times for Czechoslovakia.
