Biography

A center, Hans Cattini played for HC Davos from 1930-49, competing for them at the Spengler Cup in 1931-35, leading them to the title in 1933. Cattini won a bronze medal at the final European Ice Hockey Championships in 1932. He also represented Switzerland at the World Championships in 1933-35 and 1937-39, winning a silver medal in 1935 and a bronze in 1939. He earned 111 caps for Switzerland, scoring 54 goals in those games. Cattini won 14 Swiss titles (1933-35, 1937-39, 1941-48), and helped HC Davos win the Spengler Cup in 1933, 1936, 1938, and 1941-43. He garnered three World Championship medals, a silver in 1935 and bronzes in 1937 and 1939. He also won six European Championship medals – gold in 1935 and 1939, silver in 1934 and 1937, and bronze in 1933 and 1949.

Hans Cattini usually played on a line with his brother Ferdinand and Bibi Torriani, often called the “Ni-Sturm” line, although Hans switched to defense in his later years. The three of them worked together as electricians in Davos for a company owned by their teammate, Albert Geromini. Hans Cattini was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998, alongside his brother.
