Jacques Dietrichstein spent his first season 1923/24 with Wiener Amateur-Sportverein but moved to the more successful Wiener EV the following year, playing with them until the end of his career in 1935. Internationally he represented Austria at the 1928 Olympics, two separately held European Championships (1929 and 1932) and four World Championships (1930-31, 1933-34), which were also counted as European Championships. At these events he played 25 games as a defender and scored two goals.
Dietrichstein was vital in developing ice hockey in Kitzbühel during the 1930s. His father Edgar, was an enthusiastic sports figure in Wien and a longtime referee, who worked for the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation, and formed the Wien table tennis association. After retiring as a player in 1935, Jacques became an international referee just like his father.
