Biography

Kai Arne Engelstad was a top class sprinter in the period 1975-84. He had his best season in 1984, when he got an Olympic bronze medal (1,000 m) and a bronze medal at the World Sprint Championships. In his first senior season, 1976, he missed the Olympic Games because of a bad cold. During the World Sprint Championships later that year he had two podium finishes, and was the best Norwegian in the overall standings. He was Norwegian sprint champion in 1977, 1983 and 1984. He also took part in 37 country matches, which is a record for Norwegian speed skaters. He later worked as an economic adviser in Oslo.
