René Friedl was a German singles luger who finished eighth at the 1992 Albertville Winter Games. He was World Champion in 1989 (for East Germany) and won a bronze medal in 1993, both with the mixed teams. Friedl’s greatest moments came when he won the European singles title in 1992, as well as team golds in 1990 and 1992. He added two more team silvers in 1989 and 1994. After his active career, Friedl turned to coaching and took over the German B-team. In 2005, he became chief national coach in Austria.
