Biography

Miroslav Fryčer played hockey for Czechoslovakia at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. Fryčer had also won two medals with the Czechoslovak team at the World Championships, a silver in 1979 and a bronze in 1981. These tournaments doubled as the European Championships, also giving him the same medals from that tournament.

In 1981 Fryčer moved to North America where he played in the NHL from 1981-89, mostly with the Toronto Maple Leafs (1981-88), although he started his career there with the Quebec Nordiques, and finished it in 1988-89 with the Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers. He finished his career with short stints in Germany and Italy.

After retiring as a player, Fryčer became a coach, serving as the head coach of HC Vítkovice. He also coached in Italy and later the Czech Republic. Fryčer struggled later in life with problems with alcohol and detailed those struggles in his autobiography, My Wild Hockey Life.
