Biography

Michał Górski was a Polish cross-country skier and architect. He graduated from the Warszawa University of Technology with a master’s degree in architectural engineering.

Górski was a three-time Polish champion in cross-country skiing. He was part of the relay teams that won the 5 × 10 kilometres in 1934 and the 4 × 10 kilometres in 1935. Individually, Górski was the Polish champion in the 18 kilometres in 1935. Górski was part of the Polish team that finished in seventh place in the 4 × 10 kilometres relay at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics. Górski also competed in the 18 kilometres where he finished in 22nd place.

Górski fought for Poland in the September 1939 campaign and survived the occupation of Zakopane. In 1944 Górski was arrested and sent to a labour camp in Nowy Sącz. After the end of World War II, Górski stayed in Warszawa until 1949 where he was involved in the reconstruction of the city’s hospitals. Górski returned to Zakopane in 1949 and worked on the rebuilding of tourist and sports facilities. In Zakopane he built ski slopes, cableways, hotels, sports fields, and a speed skating track.

Górski was awarded with the Knight’s Cross and the Gold Cross of Merit.
