Biography

Kurt Harand was an Austrian ice hockey defence who participated in the 1984 Sarajevo and 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. On both occasions, the Austrian team was eliminated in the group stage. In total, he won 72 international caps, scoring 20 goals and 14 assists.

Domestically, Harand played with Wiener (Vienna) Eislauf-Verein (1972-84, 1985-89, and 1990-92), VEU Feldkirch (1984-85), and Innsbrucker EV (1989-90). After his playing career, Harand worked as an ice hockey coach, assistant coach for the Austrian national team in 2011, and as a general manager and sports manager. He married figure skater Sonja Balun. Their sons Christoph and Patrick also became ice hockey professionals.
