Biography

Ivano Brugnetti won the 1999 world title in the 50 km walking, but did not receive his medal until November 2001, when Russian walker German Skurygin was disqualified for testosterone use. Brugnetti later focused on the 20 km, but initially without much success. Only at the 2004 Olympics did Brugnetti again rise to the top of the podium, winning the 20 km by a narrow margin of just 5 seconds. In addition to these international victories, he has also won five Italian titles, winning the 5 km indoor in 2001, the 10 km in 1999 and 2006, and the 20 km in 2003 and 2004.

Personal Bests: 20kmW – 1-19:36 (2007); 50kmW – 3-47:54 (1999).
