Biography

Giuseppe Maffei was an Italian steeplechaser. A student in architecture, he grew up in the club “La Rocca Filati” in Arcisate (Varese) but at 22 moved to the club Snam San Donato.

Internationally Maffei competed at two Olympic Games (2000, 2004) but on both occasions failed to survive the heats. In 1999 he reached a creditable 10th place (8:22.65) in the final at the Sevilla World Championships and won the gold medal at the Summer Universiade.

Maffei earned 12 international caps from 1995-2004. Domestically he won only one national title in the 3,000 metre steeplechase, in 1991 on the Catania track.

Personal Best: 3000S – 8:11.85 (1999).
