Elva Goulbourne

Elva Goulbourne was primarily a Jamaican long jumper, although she also sprinted and dabbled in the triple jump. She started college in the United States at Central Arizona, becoming a two-time Junior College Champion in 2000 and 2001 in the long jump. She later switched to Auburn University where she won five NCAA titles – in the long jump indoors and outdoors in 2002 and 2003, and in the 2003 indoor triple jump. In 2002 she tied the US collegiate indoor record for the long jump with 6.91. In 2003 she won the Honda Sports Award as the top collegiate female track athlete.

Goulbourne’s greatest title was winning the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the long jump and she added a silver medal in the 4x100 relay. She also won the Central American and Caribbean Championships in the long jump in 2001 and 2003. She competed at the World Championships four times, in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007, making the long jump final in 2001 (10th) and 2005 (11th). She won a bronze medal at the Worlds in 2001 in the 4x100 relay. As a junior Goulbourne won titles in the 1997 Pan American Junior Championships in the long jump and at the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships in the 4x100 metre relay.
