Swiss sportsman Marcel Huguenin first worked as a farmer before becoming a champion cross-country skier. Huguenin had his first victory in 1950 when he became the Swiss junior champion in the 8 km event. The next year he won bronze in the relay at the Swiss championships, which was followed with back-to-back victories in the Björnstad Memorial Run in 1952 and 1953. His first individual medal at the Swiss championships came in 1954 with bronze in the 15 km, before winning gold in the relay race and silver in the 50 km at the 1956 championships. Huguenin won further medals in the relay at the Swiss championships with another gold in 1961 along with three silvers (1958, 1959, 1963). His performances earned him a place on the 4 × 10 kilometres relay team for the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo and 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics, with Switzerland finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Huguenin’s older brother André also competed in cross-country skiing at the Cortina d’Ampezzo Games.
