Biography

Vladimir Kajzelj was a Slovenian cross-country skier and bacteriologist. Kajzelj competed for Yugoslavia at the 1924 Chamonix Olympics. He finished in 34th place in the 18 kilometres.

Once he had completed his military service Kajzelj worked in the State General Hospital in Ljubljana from 1931 to 1938. He passed an exam in internal medicine and transferred to the Institute of Hygiene. In 1942 Kajzelj was arrested and sent to the Gonars concentration camp where he remained until late 1943.

After liberation in 1945 Kajzelj was sent to Novo Mesto where he worked on controlling epidemics and diseases, becoming a specialist epidemiologist and bacteriologist. Kajzelj also worked at the Institute of Hygiene in Maribor from 1950 to 1955. Kajzelj returned to Ljubljana where he was the head of the bacteriological laboratory at the Institute for Health Care.
