Howard “Howie” Lee began his career as an ice hockey defenseman with the junior Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey Association in 1946. He moved up to the senior level in 1949 and won the Allan Cup, given annually to the Canadian men’s ice hockey champions, during his first year on the team. He spent another season with the Marlboros prior to being loaned to the Saint John Beavers of the Maritime Major Hockey League for one year. He then transferred to the Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen in 1952 and stayed with them through the end of his hockey career in 1958. Along the way he picked up two more Allan Cups, in 1953 and 1955, and was invited to represent Canada in ice hockey at the 1956 Winter Olympics. At this tournament he played in eight games, scored two goals, and took home a bronze medal for his country. On February 11, 1956, just a week after the end of the Olympic ice hockey tournament, Lee signed with the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League, but only played five games with the team and never received any payment. He resumed his career for a final season with the Dutchmen in 1957-1958, adding 50 matches to total 237 regular season games with the team. After retiring from hockey he settled in Unionville, Ontario, where he was a real estate developer and broker, and coached in the Unionville Minor Hockey League.
