Biography

As a young man Slobodan Filipović played handball and basketball and later became chairman of the Yugoslav Handball Federation from 1977-81. He studied at Beograd University earning a law degree. He worked in local politics, serving as chairman of the Town Committee and Community Hall of the town of Titograd. He was a member of the executive council of Montenegro, and was executive secretary of the Central Committee of the Leagues of Communists of Montenegro and Yugoslavia.

Filipović served on the juridical committee of the Association of European National Olympic Committees and was a member of the executive board of the International Committee for the Mediterranean Games. He was co-opted onto the IOC in 1987, and served on the Cultural Commission from 1988-93. He remained on the IOC until his death in 1995.
