Biography

Manuel González had a business career with the State Telephone Company but was also heavily involved in sports administration. He was President of the Cuban Olympic Committee from 1963-1997, and also served as President of the Cuban AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) and Cuban Athletics Federation. He held major positions in the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO). González also was an Honorary President of the International Baseball Federation (IBF).

Manuel González was co-opted onto the IOC in October 1973 and served until his death in April 1997 in Habana. His son, also Manuel González, competed as a fencer for Cuba at the 1968 Olympics.
