Biography

George Lawton competed in the 1932 curling demonstration events. He was skip of the Michigan team, although Lawton was born in southwest Ontario. Lawton was a member of the Detroit Curling Club.

Lawton played football at the University of Michigan where he was known as an excellent punter. He helped the Wolverines to an undefeated season in 1910. He later graduated from Michigan Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1911. He briefly worked for the Minneapolis YMCA but later returned to Detroit where he worked for a newspaper. Lawton then ran his own general insurance business in Detroit.

Lawton also coached football, initially at the University of Detroit in 1913-14, but then coached at Assumption College in Windsor, Ontario for over 20 years.
