Quebec-born Ren Granger took his ice hockey talents south of the border in 1928 and moved to New York in order to play “winter sports” in the United States. He joined the Lake Placid Athletic Club as a goaltender and gained a reputation as one of the top amateurs in the region during the early 1930s. At the 1932 Lake Placid Olympics, the club played a series of exhibition matches, winning against a mostly-German team in one tournament and a mostly-Polish squad in another, and losing a third against a mixed US-Canada group. Granger returned to Quebec in the second half of the 1930s and spent time managing hockey teams, including the St. Johns All-Stars.
