Sam Sammis competed in the demonstration sport of pelota at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. A graduate of St. Lawrence University he excelled in tennis and hockey throughout high school and college and won several US Championships in court tennis.
After college Sammis joined the Army, working in communications in Turkey. At age 26 he joined Cross & Brown, a real estate firm in Manhattan and eventually became a significant real estate developer. In 1971 he purchased the Three Stallion Inn, and started the New England Land Company, eventually expanding his business into multiple development projects in southern Connecticut and Westchester, New York.
