German sabre fencer Dennis Bauer won the bronze medal with the men’s team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Individually, he was eliminated in the third round by Frenchman Damien Touya. At the 2002 World Championships, Bauer won another team bronze medal. In 2001, he won his only German national title. Bauer was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
