Danish sculptor Sigurd Forchhammer was born in Hessia, Germany. He studied in Norway and later in København as a scholar of Einar Utzon-Frank. Before World War II he worked as a vocational school teacher in København, and from 1956 as a curator at the Thorvaldsen Museum there. His main material was wood, with which he created mainly sacred sculptures for church interiors. He also worked with bronze, terracotta and artificial stone and as a restorer of medieval art.
