Biography

Kazimierz Sichulski was a Polish painter, draftsman and university teacher who first studied law and philosophy, then painting and decorative art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków from 1900-08. He made study trips to Wien (Vienna), Paris, Roma, and Firenze. From 1903-05 he worked as a draftsman for the satirical magazine Liberum Veto and from 1905 he was with the cabaret Zielony balonik. After serving in World War I, Sichulski was professor at the State Industrial School in Lwów from 1920-30, and in 1930-39 he was at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków.

Sichulski was a member of the Artists’ Association Sztuka and the Vienna Group Hagenbund. He painted mostly genre scenes and Carpathian landscapes and the traditions of the Hutsuls that had great success in European galleries. He was influenced by modern art trends but also by folk art and early Christian painting. His wife was the Kraków theater actress Bronisława Rudlicka (1875-1920).
