Georg Holmqvist

Georg Holmqvist represented IFK Borås, when he was entered in three jumping events at the Olympic Games in Stockholm. He did not start, however. He won the Swedish Championship in the long jump in 1911 with 6.52 m. In 1913, Holmqvist also set a Swedish record in high jump with 1.84 m. He was a versatile athlete also participating in equestrian and automobile competitions. In 1920, he completed a course at the Central Gymnastics Institute.

Later, he was active as a sports leader and held, among others, the positions of chairman of the Gothenburg District Sports Association (from 1924) and member of the board of the Swedish Sports Association (from 1928).

After graduating from high school, he volunteered for the Wendes Artillery Regiment in 1912/13. There, he became second lieutenant in 1914 and lieutenant in 1917 after graduating from the Artillery and Engineering College. In 1929, he was appointed captain of the Göta Artillery Regiment and promoted to major of the reserve in 1940.

From 1930 he was technical manager and director of Götaälvdalens omnibus AB until the company was bought by Swedish State Railways. In 1936, he started in Göteborg his own company, Rhedin & Holmqvist AB, which was involved in estate management. Holmqvist was made a knight of the Order of Vasa in 1938, of the Order of the Sword in 1940 and of the Order of the North Star in 1946. In 1918, he married Elsa Margareta Bengtsson.
