Biography

Tom Tamas was a rifle shooter who competed in prone small-bore rifle at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He was a one-time holder of the world record in that event with a 600 possible.

Tamas won eight medals at the World Championships with three golds in 1998 in the small-bore rifle prone, team small-bore rifle prone, and team free rifle. He also won three silver medals and two bronze, competing at the World from 1990-2002.

At the Pan American Games Tamas won seven medals with five golds. He won the individual prone small-bore rifle in 1991, 2003, and 2007, added a team gold in that event in 1991, and won gold in the 1991 team small-bore 3 positions event.

Tamas joined the US Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) in 1987, stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. In 1992-93 he was sent to Kora, but then returned to the USAMU.
