Biography

Joana Cortez was a Brazilian tennis player who played professionally from 1997 to 2008. Cortez achieved a career-best singles ranking of #204 in the world in September 2001 and a doubles ranking of #115 in the world in November 2001. As a doubles specialist she won 26 titles on the ITF circuit, often playing with either Vanessa Menga or Miriam D’Agostini. Cortez won three medals in the doubles at the Pan American Games, with gold in 1999 and 2003, and a bronze in 2007. In 2000 Cortez teamed with Menga for the doubles at the Sydney Olympics where they reached the second round.
