Biography

Czechoslovak tennis player David Rikl was a doubles specialist who played professionally from 1989 to 2005. Rikl achieved a career-best singles ranking of #41 in the world in May 1994 and a doubles ranking of #4 in the world in August 2001. He formed a strong partnership with compatriot Jiří Novák, with the pair winning more than a dozen ATP titles together. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics the pair reached the third round before losing to the Spanish duo of Álex Corretja and Albert Costa. In 2001 Rikl and Novák finished as the runners-up at Wimbledon after losing to the American pair of Donald Johnson and Jared Palmer. Towards the end of his career Rikl teamed up with Leander Paes of India, with them winning four ATP titles together. The pair also finished as runners-up at the 2004 US Open but lost in straight sets to Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor.
