Alex O'Brien

Alex O’Brien was a professional tennis player who was best known for his doubles expertise, the event he played at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, with Jared Palmer. In May 2000 O’Brien reached the #1 ranking in the world as a doubles player. His highest singles ranking was #30 in June 1997.

O’Brien won 13 doubles titles on the ATP Tour, including the 1999 US Open, the 1994 Cincinnati Masters, the 1999 Paris Masters, and the 1999 Indian Wells Masters. He won his only ATP singles title in 1996 at New Haven, Connecticut. O’Brien had 20 runner-up finishes in major doubles events, including at the 1996 and 1997 Australian Open and the 1995 US Open.

O’Brien played in college at Stanford where he won NCAA titles in singles and doubles and led the team to the NCAA Championship in 1992. He was a four-time All-American at Stanford.

O’Brien later joined the family business marketing and distributing beef and set up an online business to supplement their store business. He was President and part owner of the Bank of Commerce, a small community online bank with branches in Amarillo and McLean, Texas.
