Biography

Stacy Sykora played volleyball as a libero at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympics, winning a silver medal in 2008. She was on the US National Team from 1999-2004 and 2007-12 and won gold medals at the 2001 and 2010 World Grand Prix, adding a silver medal at the 2002 World Championships. She was named Best Digger and Best Libero at the 2010 World Championship.

Sykora played in college at Texas A&M University where she was a two-time All-American. She also was on the track & field and basketball teams at Texas A&M.

At the close of the international competitive season, Sykora joined the professional volleyball team. She played professionally with Mirabilandia Teodora Ravenna in Italy’s Serie A1 in 2001 and then joined Starfin Ravenna in 2002. In 2011 she played with Vôlei Futuro in Brazil. That year the bus carrying her team overturned and she sustained head trauma and brain bleeding, requiring care in an intensive care unit, being discharged slightly more than three weeks after the accident. She retired in December 2012 noting that she had never fully recovered from the accident.
