František Šimůnek

František Šimůnek was a Czechoslovak skier and ski jumper who competed at three Winter Olympics. Šimůnek won the silver medal in the 4 × 10 kilometres cross-country relay at the 1933 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

Šimůnek’s first Olympics were the 1932 Lake Placid Games. In the Nordic combined Šimůnek finished in eighth place. He also competed in the ski jump where he finished in 23rd place. Šimůnek was scheduled to compete in the 18 kilometres and 50 kilometres cross-country races but he did not start in either event.

Four years later, at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics, Šimůnek had his best individual Olympic finish with fifth place in the ski jump. He also finished in fifth place in the 4 × 10 kilometres cross-county relay, and had an 11th place finish in the 18 kilometres race. Šimůnek’s last Games were the 1948 St. Moritz Olympics. Šimůnek finished in 36th place in the Nordic combined and in 72nd place in the 18 kilometres cross-county.
