Biography

Ion Sumedrea was the second Romanian to cross the finish line in the 50 kilometres cross-country skiing event at the 1952 Oslo Olympics, coming in 23rd place behind his teammate Gheorghe Olteanu. A member of the Dinamo Brașov ski club, he was the holder of four national cross-country skiing titles. Awarded the title master of sports, Sumedrea later became a ski coach in Brașov for the Tractorul club.
